Our People
Kenneth is a Senior Associate and has been a full-time lawyer mediator since he joined Laceys in 2005. Prior to this Kenneth practiced family law in the local courts for thirty years.
Kenneth has established himself as the go-to family mediator in the Southampton area, where his extensive knowledge of all aspects of family law is recognised and respected by local solicitors and the judiciary.
Kenneth is skilled across the length and breadth of family law issues and is able to assist families and their children to resolve a wide range of issues; –
- Helping separating parents to agree a Parenting Plan for their children. Kenneth is accredited in Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM) and can speak with children privately so that the voice of the child is, where appropriate, heard in decisions about their future.
- Division of marital assets when the parties have commenced divorce proceedings. Kenneth is particularly skilled in dealing with complex and high worth finances, including pensions, company shareholdings and inherited assets.
- Cohabitee disputes (unmarried couples) under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 (TOLATA), including complex issues regarding the rights of occupation of the home where there are young children and also equitable accounting where specific financial contributions are claimed.
- Separation can be a challenging time for all concerned. Kenneth specialises in high conflict cases where his special taring can help to cool emotions and help the parties focus their energies on resolving their issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Kenneth is renowned for his professionalism and meticulous attention to detail in every case in order that his clients receive the best possible service and legal guidance relevant to their issues. Most of Kenneth’s cases are resolved in three mediation sessions, allowing families to reach a final agreement and move on with their lives as quickly as possible, thereby avoiding the time, cost, stress and uncertainty of contested litigation.
Recent notable cases that have been resolved include:
- Contact secured for a father who had not seen his son for over 5 years. He now has a cooperative relationship with the mother.
- In a short, childless marriage where the family home was owned pre-marriage by the husband and he was only offering the wife 7% of the equity, Kenneth’s legal guidance enabled the parties to agree a fair settlement of a 60/40% split.
- Kenneth’s extensive legal knowledge helped the parties resolve a complex financial case involving over £1million in capital and pension assets.
- In a bitter TOLATA case that was already the subject of protracted and bitter court proceedings and by managing high emotions and unrealistic expectations, Kenneth enabled the parties to reach an out-of-court settlement, saving each party at least £20,000 in costs.
Outside of the Office
Kenneth writes musicals and also performs in local amateur dramatics for the Otterbourne Theatre Company.
