Matt is a partner who specialises in the administration of estates, the creation of Wills and Will trusts to include inheritance tax planning and implementing powers of attorney for clients. Matt also acts as a professional attorney in relation to assisting clients with the management of their property and financial affairs.

Matt regularly administers estates which have significant elements of complexities such as multi-million-pound assets, foreign assets spanning a number of jurisdictions, multiple tenanted properties, a significant inheritance tax liability, substantial levels of continuing income, intestacies with multiple beneficiaries and abatement. Matt has also applied post – death inheritance tax planning to a number of estates using Deeds of Variation to reduce the overall inheritance tax liability and in some cases, outstanding care fees.

Matt has implemented complex Wills for recognised figures and individuals with a high net worth which has included elements of inheritance tax planning and Will trusts for future asset protection.

Matt typically advises clients on:

  • Estate administrations including intestacies;
  • Obtaining Grants of Probate;
  • Wills;
  • Will trusts and inheritance tax planning;
  • Deeds of Variation; and
  • Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Matt prides himself on his approachable nature. Dealing with extremely personal and sensitive matters, Matt recognises that all clients are individuals and always attempts to adapt to their circumstances to achieve a high level of client satisfaction across the board.

Examples of matters which Matt has acted include:

  • The administration of a multi-million-pound estate which included multiple tenanted properties including an HMO;
  • The administration of an estate which included foreign assets in multiple jurisdictions;
  • Dealing with an intestacy with multiple beneficiaries based in a number of foreign countries; and
  • Implementation of a Will and associated inheritance tax advice for a well-known individual whose estate contains potential national heritage assets.
