A day in the life of a Trainee – Elizabeth Munro

April 30, 2026

As I reach the halfway point of my third seat, it’s a great opportunity to share what a typical day looks like for a trainee in our Private Client team.

9 am

My day kicks off by catching up on emails from partners and senior associates. Working within a large, dynamic team means there’s always a lot going on. I use this time to organise my priorities and map out a to-do list to keep everything on track.

9:30 am

One of the most rewarding parts of this seat is the direct client contact. I’m involved in several client meetings each week, whether in the office or on home visits. These meetings often involve taking instructions for Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney or witnessing the signing of important documents. It’s a great feeling to manage a case from the initial instruction all the way to the final signing. The rest of my morning is usually spent drafting these legal documents, carrying out compliance checks, and communicating with our clients.

 1pm

Lunchtime is a balance of professional development and socialising. I’ll spend the first half revising for my upcoming SQE exams, then meet up with the other trainees to catch up.

2pm

My afternoons are focused on refining my legal skills. I’ll review feedback on my drafted documents from senior members of the team, conduct legal research for ongoing cases, and make calls to assist with estate administration or setting up trust bank accounts.

5pm

After finishing my client work for the day, my focus shifts back to my studies. I spend a couple of hours revising for the SQE and working through practice questions to ensure I’m fully prepared for the exams.
