With National Mediation Week having recently taken place in January, Laceys Mediation wanted to share a couple of success stories that developed during that week to help demonstrate how Mediation can resolve relationship issues in a quick and cost-effective way.

Day 1:

He hadn’t seen his children for three years…..

A miracle of sorts occurred when we chaired an “ice-breaking” 30 minute contact session between an Indian father and his three children, aged nine, seven and three. This was the first time dad had seen his children for three years. Previous Child consultation with the two eldest children enabled mediation to lay the foundation for a safe re-introduction of contact. After three years of frustration, a dysfunctional family are now working together to enable dad to spend regular time with his children.

Day 4:

Kids in the middle became the centre of attention….

He could barely look at his wife as all-consuming anger at her “affair” had eroded any semblance of rationality. She blamed him for turning the children against her. A sea of vitriol exploded across the table. The mediator administered a dose of empathy to calm the troubled waters. This was followed by reconnecting the parents with the one vital thing they still have in common, the love for their son and daughter. The session approached it’s end, a calm descended and the first positive note of the promise of better communication and cooperation emerged. The parents even managed to have a sensible discussion about finances. Two people who entered a mediation session out of control, left it with expressions of hope, thanks to the mediator for his patience and “how soon can we have another session.”

Both these cases prove mediation can solve difficult and supposedly intractable cases.
