Laura is a Senior Associate who acts for private individuals on legal related issues relating to finance, wills, trusts and probate.
Laura advises clients in connection with:
- Drafting Wills, including inheritance tax planning and the incorporation of trusts;
- Preparing the registering Lasting Powers of Attorney;
- General Powers of Attorney;
- Registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney;
- Advance Decisions (Living Wills);
- Lifetime gifting;
- Declarations of Trust;
- Administration of Estates;
- Deeds of Variation;
- Advice in connection with intestacies, including tracing the family tree;
- Management of financial affairs under Lasting Powers of Attorney or Deputyships; and
- Advice in relation to deliberate deprivation of assets and care fees planning.
Laura also specialises in Court of Protection work, including:
- Applications for Deputyships;
- Advice on Statutory Wills;
- Applications for Attorneys or Deputies to make gifts where an adult lacks capacity;
- Preparation of annual management reports.
Laura is passionate about helping people to organise their affairs and plan for the future. She ensures that clients are kept updated regularly and always tries to explain matters in the simplest way possible.
Recent examples of cases include:
- Dealing with a complex intestacy for a husband and wife. This involved tracing the family tree to ascertain who could act as the administrator and preparing the papers quickly to settle the inheritance tax due. The estate was distributed between over 50 beneficiaries.
- Preparing Wills that incorporated life interest trusts with a view to mitigating care fees.
- Administering a complex estate worth over £5 million pounds. This involved securing a loan to settle the tax due, administering a large property portfolio, dealing with several companies and claiming business property relief.
