Laceys have once again been recommended across seven of the firm’s specialist legal areas in the 2023 edition of the Legal 500, the client’s guide to leading law firms in the UK. Laceys were the only Dorset based firm recommended within the guide for Licensing.

Two of Laceys partners were also mentioned in the guide, Sam Freeman, who heads up the Corporate and Commercial team as a ‘leading individual’,  and Brendan Herbert, who heads up the Dispute Resolution team as a ‘Next Generation Partner.’

As part of the independent judging process, the Legal 500 analyses and ranks law firms and lawyers based on how they are viewed by clients, peers and other professionals.

Below are some of the client endorsements for Laceys that played a part in helping us achieve our recognitions.

Corporate and Commercial – Tier 2

‘The team are very joined up and clearly share the same values in particular in delivering client service. A USP is how they can see through the eyes of the client and understand what they need and how it needs to be delivered. This is a rare skill in the profession. A true corporate specialist team which can provide support on the full range of corporate advice which is rare locally in Dorset.

Our Corporate and Commercial team are particularly active in advising shareholders and owners-managers on exits from businesses, including handling sales to private equity and public companies; and also regularly acts on the buy-side of transactions.

Commercial Litigation – Tier 3

They exuded a quiet confidence that, as a client, was very reassuring. They had a thorough grasp of their areas of expertise and provided regular and easily comprehensible advice and guidance to me during a very traumatic period of my life. I was particularly impressed by the empathetic way in which they dealt with me, and would not hesitate to recommend them and their practice to others who might find themselves in need of legal services.’

Our Commercial Litigation team are well-regarded for their expertise in commercial claims, landlord and tenant matters and contentious probate work.

Commercial Property – Tier 3

Very efficient and friendly.

The team handle all commercial property transactions as well as ancillary issues, and is known for its sector expertise pertaining to care homes as well as hotel and hospitality. We advise developers and investors in matters related to student accommodation.

Licensing – Tier 3

Philip Day, who heads up the team, was praised by one client as ‘An exceptional support for our business for a number of years. Throughout Covid, when our business was facing potential decimation, his level-headed approach to licensing and understanding of event delivery were a massive support. His reputation as an excellent advocate is unquestionable but his compassion and understanding really set him apart in a competitive field’.

Laceys advise on events and hospitality businesses on licensing issues, including working with clients on police reviews of licenses as well as on the licensing-related aspects of property acquisitions.

Property Litigation – Tier 4

The personal touch makes all the difference. Straight to point advice and action gives confidence in dealing with the practice.’

Laceys advise on both commercial and residential property disputes, with particular expertise in matters regarding landlord and tenant issues.

Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate – Tier 4

Commitment, communication and invaluable advice.

Our team places particular focus on advising elderly clients and families.

Intellectual Property (IP) – Tier 5

The IP team advise clients from sectors including leisure, hospitality and consumer goods with the registration of trademarks and also represent them in opposition proceedings.

“I’ve been working with Sam for a couple of years on a very wide range of marketing communications. Sam has a natural attention to detail and a refreshing attitude to the work we’ve collaborated on. The launch of the new Laceys site is now the benchmark for the brand and business offering. Sam has been at the heart this journey and has been a key driver for the consistency any strong brand should have. It’s exciting to be working with a solicitor’s firm that really understands their vast audience.”
