Laceys Solicitors advise Renais Spirits ahead of the launch of Renais Gin

Leading Dorset Firm, Laceys Solicitors, has advised Renais Spirits, the brainchild of Alex Watson, ahead of the recent release of its flagship special edition Renais Gin, a distinctive and luxurious modern gin inspired by the people, produce and provenance of Chablis and Burgundy, two iconic wine regions in the north of France.
Natasha Jones, Partner in Laceys Corporate Commercial team ensured the correct agreements were put in place for initial investment, allowing Alex Watson and his fellow directors, Alex Maurice and Oliver Williams, to concentrate their efforts on the gin’s launch.
Renais Gin first came about when Alex had the idea to upcycle French wine grapes that would have otherwise been thrown away, or turned into fertiliser, as flavouring for the gin. Aptly, the name “Renais” is derived from the French word “renaissance” and means rebirth. It is made with a base spirit crafted from grapes salvaged from the winemaking process, with the addition of pressed Grand Cru grapes, local terroir and a selection of natural botanicals.
The finished product is very much a family project, with some of the French wine grapes used to make the gin coming from the Domaine Watson vineyards in Chablis. Founders Alex Watson and his sister Emma Watson were inspired by childhood trips to their family’s vineyard in Chablis, which their father has operated for more than 30 years, while Alex’s expertise, formed over a decade working in the drinks industry, has informed the product’s production process. Emma is also an invaluable asset to the business, bringing previous experience as an investor in start-ups alongside providing creative support to the entrepreneurial endeavour.
The result is a bold and vibrant spirit with a truly incredible story and flavour profile, combining modernity and heritage in a beautiful bottle.
